Biography

Corey Berends, Ph.D., is Chief Executive Officer of Footprint, leading the company's global business strategy and operations as it advances plant-based fiber solutions designed to reduce reliance on single-use plastics. With deep expertise spanning packaging engineering, food science, consumer products, and sustainability, Corey brings a unique perspective to helping brands deliver packaging solutions that balance performance and sustainability.

Before joining Footprint in 2022, Corey spent 19 years with Conagra Brands, where he led Research and Development teams spanning product and package development, science and technology, nutrition, food safety, quality, and sustainability. His experience at the intersection of product performance, packaging design, and market insights helps guide Footprint's approach to delivering sustainable solutions that meet the needs of global brands and consumers alike.

Under Corey’s leadership, Footprint has expanded its portfolio of fiber-based packaging solutions, including the continued scale-up of its revolutionary polyethylene-free cup platform, advancing the company’s mission to move more packaging away from plastic and toward more sustainable alternatives.

Corey currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and previously served on the board of the Northern Illinois Food Bank. He earned a Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology from Virginia Tech University and holds both a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering from Michigan State University.
